Nubé Hammock Shelter Reviews

Burnt Orange Nubé

My Nubé really got put to the test early this week. On a trip down the James River, a thunderstorm hit us right as we got our stuff set up on the island we stayed on. It rained ridiculously all through the night. My Pares hammock, my gear, and myself all stayed warm and dry under my Nubé. My friends were not so lucky who were nearby in Enos together under two tarps suspended by paracord. They got wet as water would periodically leak through the tarps. This is probably why they woke up way before me!
— Heaffthethief
The most surprising thing after using the Pares Hammock/Nubé Tent for 3 nights, is I actually slept really well in it, and each morning I woke up with Less pain. I had a stroke 12 years ago, and have lived every waking minute in pain ever since. It wasn’t a tremendous amount of difference, but it was definitely noticeable. Most people tend to take sleep for granted, so it might not sound like a big deal, but while I was hanging out in the Pares, I managed several lengthy naps. For the first time in the last 12 years, I slept for more then 2 consecutive hours without lots of meds/alcohol being involved. Many nights, I will only get a combined total of 2 hours of sleep, so I was Extremely impressed with this. I am now also looking at ways to get rid of my bed, and hang a Pares inside.
After I use it some more, I plan on writing an in-depth review of my experiences for some of my friends, and members of a support group I help run for Fibromyalgia, and Chronic Pain. Pretty much Every single member, always complains about difficulties sleeping, as well as pain, and in the short time I used this, it helped me with both! The only downside, is it will probably be difficult for people to get out of. I know I struggled every time. (I struggle getting out of a bed too though)
Anyways, I just really wanted to say Thanks, for making a really great product! I am thankful I went with your company, and didn’t try to save a little money, by buying a lesser quality product from a different company. I will definitely be recommending that anyone/everyone interested in a hammock, go to your site first!

After 42 Nights in the Navigator Combo* We LOVE this set up! We will be selling the tent we purchased prior to finding this perfect home away from home. We found it very hard to spend money on a hotel when we knew we would sleep horribly on a bed or ground (compared to our hammocks). Val is now looking for a way to hang her hammock up at home, unconventional....yes! But a convert! We highly recommend this hammock. Using SMr’s system allowed us to see more of the country and its people, avoided looking for and booking hotels (more time for sightseeing), saved money and slept so much more soundly that each day we awoke we were refreshed and ready for a new adventure!

"Great weekend in The Pares and Nubé at The Red! Had heavy thunderstorms and didn't get the slightest bit wet!!"

First night in the pares hammock with the nube. Being an experienced hammock camper I can’t tell you enough how awesome this thing is. Solves many issues I’ve found over the years. More adventures to come!

"Just got back from training at camp shelby, MS. The 13 Fox platoon and I spent 12 days and nights in the field and my Nubé hammock system was outstanding. It rained 3 of those 12 days and none of my gear was wet when I returned that night to bed down. This was on the 9th day in the field while I was rinsing my head with my canteen and shaving my face as best as I could haha. Very foggy morning with the sun barely out of the sky. It was extremely hot, but luckily having the Nubé allowed more air to flow within the shelter so it cooled off late at night. I still went to bed sweating just from the extreme heat, but about an hour after that the temperature dropped. With all that being said, I am very pleased with my hammock and shelter and will continue to use my system. Thank you for the shelter system and I hope you have a great day! God Bless!" ~Photo by Casey Ferguson

The maiden voyage with the Pares and Nube.
Cowans Gap, PA and Pohick Bay, VA. The shelter handled nearly 8 inches of rain in one week and 4 inches on the first night! I love it!!
The Boy Scouts are heading west next week to Sequoia and King’s Canyon NP. Pics to come.
— John Bostel
The scout troop along with Three Nubé’s traveled 2300 miles one way to SEKI, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National parks. We hiked the Rae Lakes Loop. The shelters were awesome!! The (3rd) photo is of one of the Rae Lakes, nothing to do with a Nubé, just thought you should see it. The last night were hanging right on woods creek, we all had one end tied to a tree right on the bank, almost too loud to sleep. Beautiful!

I love this hammock!! I could have bought a an ENO from a big chain sporting goods store, but SMR is more like “mission” that happens to be a business not a business that does “missions”. This is why I decided to buy my camping gear from SMR. This is my 2nd season hammock camping and my Pares/Xplor hammocks are still in great shape and hold up well in the elements (thanks to my Nube). Set-up/take down is supper fast. Very satisfied with my hammocks!! Very good quality materials.

I had a beautiful view on Grand Island Michigan in Lake Superior. This camping spot was the highlight of my trip up at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Park.

Just wanted to say a huge THANKS to all of Sierra Madre Research team! My Nubé with Pares and xPlor offered me a lot of comfort and relax in:
Estonia (home country)
Norway (with HG UQ and TQ)
China
Philippines
Israel
UK (with HG UQ)
Italy
Mexico
Dominican Republic
Some Caribbean islands like BVI, US VI, Antiqua etc etc
Using all the stuff as a tent, beach hammocks, hanging chairs. Hung over hundred times already (in a half a year). No issues, no complains. GF also just in love with the gear. I don`t touch the sand anymore while relaxing at the beach, I prefer to sleep in the hammock even in the yard of the hotel or hostel while traveling (just to use all the facilities in the hotel), because for me the sleep quality is a way better than in a bed. I take the Xplor with me even when I want just to read a book in the park.
Done just great engineering and overall work. And super nice people to talk. Thank you from all of our hearts.

"Thanks again so much for getting my Nubé to us for our trip to the BWCA.  I am not sure if it has ever been used in the Boundary Waters of Northern Minnesota, but it is the essential, must have gear, for this location.  Anyone who knows Minnesota and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, especially in the summer, knows the mosquitoes can be nasty.  My daughter and I just finished a trip up there this past week and as we were enjoying our Nube, thought how great it will be when the bugs come back this summer.  I take 3-4 trips a year and will bring it every time.  I’m kind of a gear addict and the Nube is my new great discovery.  I’ll pass the word around."

Thank you for researching and developing such an amazing product. I lived in my Nubé for 3 weeks when I traveled to Belize in December. I too have a mission to change the lives of others and YOU have made that possible. The Nubé is so versatile. I love that I do not have to pack around a heavy tent and poles anymore! Nor do I have to pick up sticks and disturb our ground level friends ( a colony of leaf-cutter ants also appreciate the Nubé for not getting in their ‘flow’). A huge THANK YOU from everyone at The Sustainable Revolution!

2 photos of my new camping rig, a.k.a. the “Taj Mahammock”: Nubé shelter, Solo hammock, and homemade poncho liner under quilt. Just back from a 7 night canoe camping trip on the Allagash Wilderness Waterway in northern Maine. After 5 years of camping in a spartan (although admirably lightweight) Hennessey Backpacker Ultralite, the Taj Mahammock was truly a backwoods luxury palace. The features I appreciated the most:
A) The gear sling. Loved having easy access to all my gear and knowing it would stay dry.
B) Bug net is attached to the tarp rather than the hammock (as it is in the Hennessey or my husband’s Warbonnet Blackbird). No listening to mosquitoes whining right next to your ear.
C) The “cathedral ceiling” of the tarp - room to actually stand up, while giving plenty of coverage. No way rain can get in there, even when blowing sideways (not entirely true of the Hennessey, with its small tarp),
D) hammock is suspended seperately from the Nubé shelter, so easy to set up (with the Hennessey, it’s all one, so takes more fussing with to get it level, and the hammock sways and bounces more), and since you set up the tarp first, the hammock is never out in the rain.
There were just a few features where the Hennessey wins out over SMr: weight (as mentioned), the snakeskins, and asymmetric hammock design makes it easier to find the “sweet spot” for lying flat (my first night in the Solo hammock, I did a lot of wriggling trying to get level, fell asleep, and woke up more or less in the right place. After that, I didn’t try too hard, just let the hammock decide where it wanted me. That worked well for side sleeping, but lying on my back, I tended to slip into the middle of the hammock and into more of a banana shape).
All in all, I’m happy with my Nubé, and looking forward to taking it camping in Puerto Rico this winter.

Let me begin by saying that I LOVE my Nubé hammock tent, winter barrier, and Pares hammock system. I lived in it for a week and would mimic all of the other great reviews and stories about outstanding quality and design...in addition to the stories about friends being washed out of their tents during heavy rains while I nested high and dry. The only difficulties that I had were with the gear stash suspension and when I attempted to zip in and out of the shelter. At first I tried zipping 2/3 and as I sat in the hammock with my legs outside the shelter would unzip. I tried getting in and then hauling myself from end to end to reach the zipper. I tried several other contortions until after sever nights I finally gave up and lowered my gear stash so that I could stand in it and zip before getting into the hammock. The lowering of the gear stash solved another issue and that was that for some reason the suspension lines for the stash could be felt while lying in the hammock. What am I doing wrong? What’s the optimal hang angle for sleeping on an angle? How high should I hang the gear stash? Finally, how do people ever adjust to sleeping in a regular bed once they have floated on a Pares cloud? I have had to buy hardware to hang my hammock in my bedroom because I don’t like sleeping in the basement or garage and those are currently my only other hang options. Take care and Thanks!!!

"I tell you what. I got my Nubé in October of last year. I went backpacking all winter across the east coast. I camped out on some pretty cold nights. A crazy winter storm over in Rhode Island tore the Nubé pretty good. I emailed the company and they paid for shipping to send it back. They patched it all for me. And promptly returned it, I've been camped out in it for the past two months in Nevada, living out of it and my backpack. I'm in the high Sierra Nevada's, Lake Tahoe. I've been in the freezing snow, the rain, and the dry desert heat with this thing. It's done me solid! I have the pares hammock, the nubé and the winter wind guard (Winter Barrier). This is a solid product for sure! Haha, literally put my life in the hands of Sierra Madre Nubè, many nights. I haven't tested the ground set up with the floor accessory, probably when I'm done being a bum I will invest in it. The company also gives part of the money to a fresh water project in South America, where one of their facilities are. Your company is awesome and I am proud to be using it!"

Opinion of the Nube enclosure.
I purchased your Nubé system a few months ago and I finally had an opportunity to put her thru a fowl weather test. I was hiking in the Withlacoochee Forest on Florida’s suncoast. I was camped @ Tillis Hill campground preparing for a 28 mile hike the following day, I needed a good nights sleep. I had used the Nube 8 times prior in great weather conditions and loved it. This particular night we had 14 hours of non-stop rain and winds, sustained @30+ mph with gusts to 75 mph. I was stoked as to how well the Nubé weathered the storm! I was bone dry and the Nubé stayed put. Unfortunately half the tent campers didn’t fair as well as I did. This is by far the best hammock enclosure/rainfly on the market hands down and I’ve owned most of the hammocks/rainflys available. Bottom line, “ You Rock ,” excited to see your new creations. Cheers/George

"I am assisting at Top of Georgia with there busy NOBO bubble. I have 360 miles completed of the AT. April I will continue my hike north until June 1st. Then I will work in the White Mountains at the White Mountains Lodge and Hostel for the summer. This tent is right in the front of Top of Georgia Hostel and Hiking Center. Many hammock folks are drooling over my system. Haven't had a chance to put it into play yet on trail. But I am currently living in it! I purchased the whole Sierra Madre system. I love it more than anything or anyone!"  - Photo by Erik Barstow -Marine Corps and Army background. I am also a trail angel helping hikers between hiking and working.

Adventura Combo-
Worth the wait folks!! Order early for the Nubé. I ordered my Nubé, Adventura Combo in August and I got it 9/15. Set up was easy in the back yard. The Pares was huge and soft. The detailing of the stitching and seams were all smooth. The quality of SMR products is outstanding. I could not get my daughters out of MY birthday present (isn’t that how it usually goes). So, after hanging (for several hours + a nap) out in my hammock, I decided to order the Xplor. If you can, go ahead and get the Navigator Combo package if you have kiddos, it’ll save you several $$. I called SMR, talked to Richard about ordering an Xplor on Monday and my order will be at my door on Wednesday. That’s stinkin’ fast people!!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, so this is going to be a very short quip and I will be sure to following up with a full review and I will send you a link to the video of my first outing, BUT;

THIS IS THE BEST PRODUCT I HAVE EVER SEEN PRODUCED FOR OUTDOOR HAMMOCK ENTHUSIASTS! EVER!!! You have thought of everything, the material is bar none, there is not another hammock manufacture on the market today, that allows all that is offered out of the Nubé, in such a small package. I have one request, when you send me the winter barrier, and I will be for sure getting the Nubé Floor now!! I would like you to send along approximately 1000 business cards, for me to start handing out to every person that inquires About my new cloud of protection. A truly remarkable product, assembled with the artisan talent of hands that seamlessly bring together the finest fabrics I’ve seen on ANY hammock. The static discharge off the hammock and Nubé is fantastically low!! A thousand fold better than the static lightning rods EN... Well I don’t think I need to name names, we all know.. And the ridge line that is so apparent on the center line of OTHER hammocks is completely void on your hammock, there is no uncomfortable spot in the hammock whatsoever!!!! The grab handles, clips on the side (I might go with a static cloth loop over the elastic loop, I have never had elastic last over 3 years.) the line locks are genius!! The stakes are beautiful, light and the friction lock knots you show on your assembly page are super sweet!!! Like I said there is no aspect you and your team, have not thought of. I could not be happier and I want to know what I can do to become more involved in your company!!!! I THINK YOU ALL ROCK!!! Have a great day and a fantastic weekend!!!!!

Outdoor nut and NUBÉST,

Had a thunderstorm with hail, heavy rain and wind come in last night so the Nube got tested in undesirable conditions. I had taken some poles to give the center tie downs a lift for easy access and breathability not expecting storms at all. With the Pares clipped in I made it inside just as hail started to hit. All gear stayed dry, I stayed dry and the rain and thunder made me sleep like a baby all night!
— Ryan Jones, Oklahoma
After sleeping in my Nubé/Pares for the first time the last 4 nights I am scared to go back to my bed. Fall weather was perfect. Stayed comfy, warm, dry and bug free. Enjoyed it so much I stayed last night too knowing I would have to get up extra early this morning for a 2 hour drive to work.
— Ryan
Love the nube, already had it camping with my pares in torrential rain. So awesome! keep it up guys. Wife Kelley didn’t ever want to go camping but after spending afternoons in the hammock, she’s converted. Thank you for making our marriage stronger!

"Went on a 70+ backpacking trip with a group to Isle Royale during the last week of August for 7 nights hanging in my Nubé and Pares. Dealt with a couple storms at night and some rain one day. At one site I set it up on the ground and used the Nubé Floor as there was one spot to hang and the other guy hanging didn't have an ideal ground setup for his in the rain. Love the versatility of the Nube! Been loving it since Memorial Day and haven;t used my previous setup since. Can't wait to see what you have with the upcoming Fly-Lite and other future products(would love to see an SMR underquilt ; ) )"

It is arrived a view days ago and we were able to make a little test in a garden.
My girlfriend and me, we like it very much and we know, that we gonna have a lot of fun with it.

Definition of Polar Vortex: an excuse to test out my Sierra Madre Research Nubé Winter Barrier. Now I know there's no excuse for not hammocking in the northern rockies. The wind chill was -20 below in Missoula, Montana when I woke up toasty in my Pares hammock this morning. Yes, that's my front yard. It was a school night. Still got the kids to school on time. This is why I bought an indoor/outdoor battery powered thermometer...to warn me if I'm going to die.

Nube... Nuff Said
The Nube... It isn’t “quite possibly” or “almost” or “up there with...” one of the greatest hammock shelters; it IS the best hammock shelter. No other system offers this level of protection (e.g.: rain, wind, bugs, piece of mind, etc.) with a weight just at 3 lbs and compresses itself to the size of a small soccer ball. Great job SMr, and keep up the awesome work!
— Jay Jamerson
Over the years I have learned that many people avoid the outdoors for two common reasons; getting wet and cold, and also dealing with nasty bugs. I love the outdoors, but even more so I love sharing it with my family. I have always wanted them to have fun, without suffering coldness or dealing constantly with our Minnesota mosquitoes that can be gigantic. The SMr Nubé has exceeded my expectations in combating the elements. We set up the Nubé in no time at all! Sierra Madre Research has thought of everything with the Nubé. Our ENO Guardian Bug Net has been nice, but having an all in one tarp/ bug out shelter for my hammock is amazing, and besides, it is incredibly roomy. Though I had read about the roominess online, you can't imagine it until you get into the Nubé. I am 6' tall and my high school daughter is 5'8". The two of us in a double hammock had more than enough room in the NUbé. We played Farkle for hours in the Nubé. It even rained with a splash of snow and we stayed dry the entire time. It was so nice to have gear stowed in the storage compartment (Gear Stash)  below without having to venture out in the misty rain for supplies. SMr truly make a great product with the Nubé! - Photo By Lyle H.

I got a shipping notification on Friday, arrived today, and after a quick (cramped) backyard setup I gotta say I’m both happy and impressed.
I’ve been plotting all kinds of adjustments and modifications since early August — and I’m pleasantly shocked at the extra details and thought put into the Nubé. The build quality strikes me very well, the material and seams look great (I almost want to take a hose to it to test) — and there are lots of little things like the tie-out cord keepers and reflective materials on the tie-out corners that I wasn’t aware of at all.
Lots of items have QR codes that link to videos showing detailed information or setup throughout the hanging process — I wasn’t aware of these before today except for the general how to hang the Nubé video — a nice addition for an initial setup at home.
I think the only puzzle/oddity is that each bag or sac for the hammock, Nube, Winter Barrier has a different closure/cinch method — they’re all quite nice, but I find it funny that each is different. Oh well, gonna have to think about that in a hammock...
Richard, Juli, and the SR Team — nice work!
P.S. — and the Winter Barrier is pretty sweet too!
— Colin Fleming
I got my Nube! But now I want more! I should have ordered the bundle with the Pares, EZ Slings and Carabiners. I already have an ENO setup, but after comparing my setup to my friend who got the ‘Nubé and Pares Set up’ on Kickstarter, I like your setup better! What is the expected ETA for your other Pares colors? Let me know how I can most quickly and easily get myself in a full SMr setup. Thanks! P.S. I love my Nube! I have already planned 4 camping trips I plan on taking it on! It would be wonderful if I could have all your equipment for them.
— Luis
Its cinches up nice and snug and didn’t allow any water in. I had the EZSlings with my Pares in the Nube in a heavy all night and morning Thunderstorm here in WI my first weekend using it and I was curious how it held up and looked and there was no moister on the slings on the inside of the Nube. Their cinches do work!

"My buddy and I both got Nubés and have put them to good use so far. We have done everything from urban setups at work, camping in the back woods of Old Lyme, CT (haven’t gotten lyme diasese yet!), Peddocks Island, MA, East Burke, VT, and just about any chance we get! Oftentimes when we attend parties we just set up our Nubés and spend the night in someones yard (Don’t drink and drive!!)."

I received my Nube yesterday, and set it up to test it behind the house a bit. It’s amazing how small this whole schlameel is, and how easy it will be to use in my camping trip the 2nd week of June. Thank you VERY much for such an awesome product! God bless.

"A cold front blew through Saturday evening riding on a pretty serious thunderstorm that dropped the temp from 64 down to 52 in less than 20 minutes. The gusts claimed 2 tents in our camp, everybody else hopped in their cars & trucks, I rode out in the Nubé. Stayed dry the whole ride!"

I did indeed receive all of my Nubé and Pares Hammock order the next Mon. Your videos were greatly appreciated in learning the options, in’s and out’s of set up. Looking at UTube blogs on available alternatives to your system confirmed my assumptions that nothing comes close in well thought out design and quality of construction.
There is another area of opportunity that you have that could convince so many more of the value of hammock camping. That is” a thorough examination with recommendations for positioning oneself in the Pares for optimal comfort and a great night’s sleep.
There are a few UTube entries that give some suggestions but these are rather crude and inartfull. So, a well done video with some medical credibility on positional and/or padding suggestions for the Pares hammock use could be a terrific selling advantage.
I couldn’t be happier!
All the best!
— Robert Shirley, Blowing Rock NC
So I am a lucky man. Richard was kind enough to lend me one of the Nubé prototypes and I am very impressed. This is one amazing piece of camping gear that provides an incredible amount of roomy space to hang in your hammock protected from the wind and rain. It is quite obvious a lot of attention to detail and design functionality went into this revolutionary hammock shelter. Now I really cant wait to get my production Nubé. Bravo Richard, Juli and the rest of the SMr team!
— VABCKPKR
I have to tell you, I was camping at a music festival with close to 7,000 women and found myself having lengthy conversations about the Nube and SMR with everyone that walked down the path past my site...ESPECIALLY after the 12 hour torrential downpour washed out of their tents during heavy rains while I nested high and dry. Everyone was super impressed by the design and attention to detail. Many pictures were taken (sorry none by me), and a lot of jotting down of the web address and options. The winter barrier was great because it stopped the late night breeze that came in off the lake. I really couldn’t have been more pleased with the overall experience. I know that my issues are of my own making and that if I continue to be flummoxed over the zipper.

Thank you again and many blessings in your endeavors.

Amazing product!!!! Thank you very much!!!

Loving my Nubé

"Bravo!  Quick over-nighter with my pop to check out my production Nubé and I love it. I brought the prototype for him to try out and believe I just sold another Nubé : ) I am really impressed with the attention to detail, ease of setup, roominess and knowing the fact that I bought this gear helps provide clean water to those in need. You, Juli and the rest of the SMr team are good people and you should be proud of what you have accomplished. One word sums it up, amazing! Can't wait to meet you and Juli at our first annual Nubé hang."

I used the first prototype of Nubé on a climbing trip to Foster Falls near Chattanooga. This was my first time camping without having a tent for backup, and I never needed it. It rained pretty hard on us a couple of nights, but my gear and I stayed completely dry. Never had to worry about insects or critters getting into my food either. SMr has done an excellent job engineering all of the details to come up with the perfect hammock shelter.
— Brett Williams
Finally got to try the Nube on the Appalachian Trail. Rained many a night, and I’ve never been so dry in a hammock shelter or even any tent.
— Jon Tripp

"Pulled my Nubé out of its bag for the first time this weekend for a fishing and camping trip and it is awesome! I love everything about it. My favorite thing about it is being able to keep your pack dry. If you have a hammock, a Nubé is a must!"

I just wanted to post my experience with the Nubé. I took it on the Appalachian Trail for some amazing backpacking. The weight of carrying the Pares (Sierra Madre Resarch’s Hammock) and the Nube combined was not noticeable. Many nights it rained HARD. Nonetheless we always managed to pick out a campsite that had some trees and were able to get the Nube up just before it rained. One night I had to put it up WHILE it started raining (and raining HARD) but the Nube was so easy to set up that I managed to use it as a rain free shelter to keep my gear dry while I set up my Pares inside. If I ever needed something out of my bag while I was in my hammock I just needed to reach down and grab it from the gear sling! I slept dry every single night and in the morning my gear was dry and I had a great backpacking trip because of it. Not to mention I slept mosquito free every night. If I had to mess with a tent I would have been miserable. Thanks for the great experience SMr!
— Jon Tripp
In 2009 I led Richard into the remote area of Honduras. Sleeping was quite difficult. The next spring he gave me a Nube prototype and I have used it extensively in my mission work since then. I had a Hennessy Hammock which worked great except mosquitoes would bite you through the hammock if your body touched the sides. In my Nube this isn’t an issue. I have never been bothered by bugs in my Nube! I have slept in it through many a strong rain storm during rainy season and have never had anything get wet! It has been a safe haven during the storm and worked flawlessly. I will actually be staying in it next week as I lead a group out there once more. And by the way, I am actively involved with some of the water projects/well drilling that his company claims to support.....and the claim is legit! -

SO EXCITED FOR THE NUBES!!!!
— Ashtin
I had the opportunity to try out the Nubé on a backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail. I was not disappointed! It rained every night we were there, but thanks to the Nubé, we (and our packs) stayed dry. One night on the trail, in particular, the Nubé really proved to be an unbelievably useful piece of gear. A thunderstorm rolled in quickly and left us only minutes to set up our hammocks and Nubé. We were on a slope at the time, but that was ok! We found two trees and had our “hambunks” and Nubé set up in enough time to stow our gear and climb in our hammocks to wait out the storm. After about 15 minutes, we were extremely grateful for the Nubé when we noticed a waterfall flowing down the mountain and through our camp. It flowed directly underneath our Nubé gear sling, but everything remained completely dry. Had we been in tents, we would have been washed out! Not to mention how difficult it would have been to find cleared/flat ground.

Our gear came today- chickens go out tonight- look out world here we come - You guys are amazing - the scan tags were genius - the attention to detail is incredible - more than I expected! Thanks to all the hard workers at Sierra Madre Research!
All I did was play each how to video in sequence while Kenny did all the work lol- then I climbed right in to relax- it is the most incredible piece of equipment I have ever seen. Can not wait to hit the creek to see where we end up- out options are now truly endless - you guys are awesome

I love this product. About 5 years ago I was traveling through Palenque, Mexico and bought a handmade triple-stitched cotton rope hammock. Needless to say, it has not been suitable for all types of weather and traditional rain-fly’s provide inferior shelter. I have been searching travel gear for something exactly like this long enough to know the Nube will be what I use from now on. I can happily say the search is over, with such an innovative design and trustworthy company a much needed solution to my hammock-shelter problem has arrived! Thank You Sierra Madre Research for your vision, determination and dedication to bring this to fruition. If you ever have camped in a hammock, then you know how valuable this will be to enjoying all that nature has to offer with just the right amount of protection from the elements & highly recommend you watch the video and buy the Nube’!

I went to Vicksburg last night, and I touched the Nube. Yes, I, Will Cunningham, Esq., touched it. It was elegant, sleek, but very very deadly. It glowed with the heat of a thousand suns. I’m lucky to have survived. In all seriousness, I went to SMr HQ and looked at the most recent prototype. It blew me away. I quickly purchased the “Adventura Combo deal” (Nubé and Pares Hammock with EZSlings and 2 Carabiners) while the getting was good. Thanks Richard and Juli!
— Will Cunningham
The test run was successful! Now we are already on the road and taking it out this weekend! Bring on the adventure! I am just really excited to have such a small and easy to set up tent! I can’t wait to send more pictures of all of the awesome places we are going to use it! Thank you again for a fantastic product!

I got the opportunity to get a hold of a “Pares” hammock and nubé sleep system, pre-release I guess you could say. It accompanied me to the Bukid (Cebuano for extremely hard to get to/live place) in the Philippines. I had used a therma-rest sleeping pad the previous 2 summers (which compared to the ground, a Therm-a-Rest Pro-lite is gold). Let me just say the sleeping pad got slept on maybe 3 nights out of the 55+ nights this past summer because of the nubé and pares. The pares hammock is the larger of the two sizes (xplor and pares) with the “nubé” added. Some of my partners had other brand hammocks. Lets just say everyone wanted a piece of the SMr pares.
Put this next to another “double” hammock and you can def see where painstaking design and testing makes a difference. The material has just the right amount of hug and feel. It has made it the past year with no runs or tears while several other hammocks didn’t make it that summer. At a comparable weight and price to other hammocks, 22.5 oz and it is much larger (read: more room to get comfortable) than a typical double, with straps included. SMr is the real deal. I thought Richard was crazy for trying to “reinvent the wheel” so-to-speak. Well he shocked me. This isn’t just a hammock & rain-fly, its a PARES & Nubé. And the jungles, mosquitos, and tropical rain (read: torrential monsoon downpours) of the Philippines coud testify to durability of this as well.
But wait… the best part hasn’t even been said. The founder of SMr is driven to change the world for the better. Go check out the “About SMR” section after you put one of these in your cart!

Heed my words. I went to Vicksburg, MS last night and touched the Nube. It held me in its strong yet gentle arms and told me everything was going to be alright. I trusted it, and it trusted me. Seriously though, I went to SMr HQ last night and looked at the Nube first hand. The word “Wow” is an insufficient description. If you are hesitant, don’t be. After I finished basking in the warmth of the Nube, I went home and cussed at my tent collection for not being the Nube. Thanks Richard and Juli!
— Will Cunningham
My 13 year old and I finally took out the Nubé. We loved it. The temperature dropped to just above freezing. The Winter Barrier worked like a champ. I found out hambunking is not for me; but the Nubé was definitely a great investment! Satisfied and happy customer.
— Alfredo
…I camp all the time in a hammock and the lack of a functioning hammock (shelter) has baffled my mind…. Thanks for pushing the standard and striving for a better product for everyone. I’d really like to see a sticker included. I ride all my gear hard and for companies who’s product is genuine I love to advertise on my jeep and I sure spread the word of mouth.
— kiltstain
I have needed this for so long. Thank You Sierra Madre Research - The Nube is an Ultimate edition to my Travel Gear!!!
— Zach Swanson
A friend showed me your product and I knew I had to have it. I go on my fair share of outdoor excursions and occasionally find myself in unfavorable camping conditions. Whether it’s inclement weather, particularly hungry mosquitoes, or difficult terrain; I believe your hammock shelter will help me out. On a recent Appalachian Trail trip, my friend and I had to set up camp early due to a non life threatening injury he sustained. Having only our tent and being at the crest of a mountain in the Smokies, we spent a difficult night crammed in amongst the trees and trying to get some rest on an impossible angle of incline. If only I had a system that could fit in that space, provide shelter to my gear along with us, and stay level.
This will be my new go to system. The xPlor and Pares hammocks, coupled with the Nube is everything I have been looking for in one neat, lightweight package. Now I just have to find a way to help make the time pass until it arrives!
… I’m planning on taking the Nube and accessories to Alaska in early spring

"Spending time with my girls at Alley Pond Park, NY. Getting our little one into the outdoors and hammocking early... She loves it so far. We can't wait to put our Nubé shelter and ourselves to the test in the field. Thank you SMR for this great product!"

from the Tapia Family

This was such a HUGE blessing to my wife and I! We were just married last year and weekend backpacking trips have become our hobby. We know the frustrations of poor hammock shelters very well and we’re both so thankful to be getting a Nube! We are saving up to buy Pares hammocks from you guys too and will be ordering them by spring.
— Timothy Sunday (Nubé winner for SMr's #GearMe campaign)
I saw the new hammock system Nubé. It looks awesome. This looks like one of the (if not THE) best systems out there
— Thadeus

Pares Hammock Reviews

Pares Hammocks and an xPlor Hammock

Well, I just typed this out and tried to keep it short, but it’s so hard because there are so many great things to say about SMr and the PARES. Most of the other reviews are the same, so that should say something. Bottom line: the PARES is the best hammock you will ever buy. I’ve owned and slept in hammocks from ENO, Gibbon, as well as Grand Trunk, and this is my last stop on my search for the perfect hammock. Your sleeping/rest arrangements literally make or break your hiking/camping/adventuring experience. Don’t trust them to anything else. I take it with me everywhere I go to find an excuse to be in it. Nothing like training for a kayak race and then relaxing in the trees on the banks of the Mississippi river before I paddle in. If you’re on the fence, which I don’t know why anyone would be, read the “advocate change” page to see where your money goes. That should help you make up your mind and realize that you won’t find a better hammock, for a better cause, from a better company anywhere else. SMr, you ARE the one for me!! Also, check out the website Kickstarter for the Nube`! CAN’T WAIT!!!
— Jackson Oliver
My husband bought me a Pares hammock for my birthday a few weeks ago and we loved it!! So our kids wanted one, we found the ENO site and it had different colors the kids liked so we ordered 2 of them. We were able to compared the 2 hammocks...anyway we decided yours are better!! So my daughter and my husband are getting SMR’s!!! Thank you so much for your attention to detail and quality products. We are Bible believing followers of Jesus and are so excited to help you provide water to people who need it!! God Bless you and your family!

I bought my Pares to celebrate my graduation from university. I wanted a light, compact, and sturdy hammock for everyday relaxation and weekend camping. From the first time I set it up, to just 10 minutes ago when I took it down after some leisurely reading, it has been a pleasure to use. Perhaps the feature I like most are the strong and easy-to-use straps. The knotted paracord segments are so handy, and make adjusting hammock height/angle a breeze.

If I could offer one piece of feedback to improve the Pares, it would be to make some storage accessories for it. It would be nice for the Pares to have a small gear stow accessory, like the Nube system does, but smaller, perhaps for bags, books, or other items you have on your person. For hikes and camping I have found the Pares to be less than ideal for gear storage, and my solution so far has been to hang my bag from the straps with a carabiner. This works, but is not ideal. I am not sure what the best solution for this is, but I’m sure there are some inventive ways SMR could remedy this slight trouble.

Other than this suggestion, my Pares performs very well. I would buy it again for sure.

"I already have the Pares and love it imesureably. I slept in it 3 night straight on a motorcycle trip through north california in April and just loved it. It took a while to get used to a hammock but i love it. I tired a kammok hammock one as well and its miles apart. But I just want to tell you that I LOVE the Smr pares hammock. I got the Kammok one for comparison and although the Kammok is fine, my preference is the material of the Pares. It's also a little bigger and that I love.  My only other suggestion is you have to market yourself more. Rest assured I will always be the ultimate SMr promoter without a doubt. It's hard to find you guys. The ultimate hidden gem. Let me know how I can help in any way. I'll do my part to promote it in person and send you more pictures once I remember to take them. Once I get in the hammock my mind is in zen and I completely tune out.  I'm want to order the Nubé and the Winter Barrier to complete my set plus at least 2 crabiners.  I love your products to the point of being addicted. I love minimalist gear." Photo by Marek Mezyk

I wanted to let you know that I found the hammock to be, well, quite awesome! What a great product.
As you might imagine, the temps are a bit chilly here in Minnesota, so I have the Pares hanging in my shop so I can enjoy it while the weather keeps me a bit more inside than outside.
I am really eager to get this hanging in the trees. So much so, that I couldn’t wait to place my order for the Nube. Put it in today. It’s going to be great to have that up in the BWCA this Spring.
Can’t wait!
Hope things are going well for you and the crew.
— Brad LaRock
Finally it’s here and we love it! Hung out all Sunday with my kids in it! Even my small kids now understand and appreciate the water drilling this hammock provides. So perfect product, fair attitude and also a good price with customs. Best regards!

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting you guys at an outdoors show 2 years ago. You both had me sold on the Pares and I was fortunately able to make the purchase and walk out with it that day. Since I’ve first used the Pares, I’ve been in love with it and it’s now my most prized possession when it comes to my outdoor equipment. I’ve got to say, this product is not the only thing I’ve fallen in love with though. After learning more about the cause that these purchases go toward, I’ve become obsessed with Sierra Madre Research and everything it stands for. All the extras you’ve come out with since we first met, is just icing on one big and freaking amazing cake. Thank you guys for this awesome product and for everything you do behind the scenes.

LOVE your products
I just got your pares hammock a few days ago and I am in love with it! After school I go outside and set it up right away and just relax for a while in it it’s really comfortable and I’m a pretty big guy and play football (6’1 278) so it’s been hard to find a good camping hammock that can hold me and be comfortable and not being worried of ot will rip haha and this pares is my favorite hammock by far! I do a lot of camping, hiking, dirt bike rides and canoeing and have gone to some really cool places like Alaska, Colorado and the Florida keys. I just love to be outdoors.
This summer I’m doing a float trip down the buffalo river in AR and I’m pumped to be using your gear I’m definitely a convert! and I can’t wait to get the Nubé! after getting the pares I’m totally hooked on hammock camping!(:
Keep up the great work!!!!

Just received my pares hammock today. I’ve never been in a hammock before - ever. I’ve never put up a hammock before - ever. I cannot believe how easy it is to safely put up a pares hammock using the EZ sling system - literally took me a minute. The hammock is huge and incredibly comfortable. It is also as light as a feather and takes no ninja skills to cram it back into its pack. My only complaint is that I have not yet mastered the art of getting OUT of my hammock. If you could have seen me trying you would have been laughing your head off!!!! Have absolutely no idea how any of you got either in or out of the hammocks you have suspended artfully over a variety of gorges and high up in trees in the photos on this site - I need tips!!! Thank you to SMR for such a great product. It is so small and so light that I know it will get a lot of use. Please put some instructional videos on your site though!!

"Just got my new Pares Hammock from Sierra Madre Research today. It's almost a foot longer than my newly torn ENO, which is going to make sleeping across it so much easier. This thing is sick! Congrats SMr, you've successfully won a long time ENO buyer!"

I just convinced my dad that he should get a Pares (he went through the same learning curve that I did, starting with an ENO, upgrading to a Kammok Roo, and settling on a Pares in the end). He’s super excited. So I wanted to say THANK YOU for hooking up my dad with a sweet hammock. :) He’ll love it. My friend Amanda and I just returned from hiking the JMT with our xPlor hammocks here are a few of my favorite pictures.
— River Emrys
I’ve tried and tested just about every hammock out there, and having found my favorites, was skeptical that SMr could do anything better. Well, they did. In a big way. The Pares has one of the best, if not THE best, stuff sack designs on any hammock. It’s super easy to pack your entire hammock AND whatever you’re using to hang it into the sack, and the dual-strap compression packs it down tight and evenly, instead of the squished-muffin look of other systems. The sack is also not centered on the hammock, which is a surprising bonus, making it easier to set up without having your hammock end up in the dirt. The hammock itself is wider and longer than my current go-to double, which is excellent. It also, and this is a BIG DEAL for hammock campers, keeps you significantly warmer than any other hammock I know. On a warm sunny day, not a great thing, but most of the time, the Pares is much better at keeping that chilly breeze off your back. If you’re on the fence, get off, buy one,
support a great cause, and hang happy.

I recently received my Pares Hammock from Sierra Madre Research, and it is amazing! I’ve had the chance to string it up a couple of times and I really love it. They are super cool and really work to advocate change in our world. Please take a few minutes to look at what they’re about and if you’re in the market to get a hammock or want to preorder (a Nubé) one of the most innovative and complete hammock shelters available you should do it.

"Really enjoying our Pares hammock. Once we get our Nube we can leave the tent behind"

I took a two hour nap in one of these hammocks at twofourhell this weekend. I have now made the switch from ENO to SMr. This is the most comfortable hammock I have slept in!
— Marcel Belliveau
I use the pares. I have slept in a solo a lot and it is comfortable, but I enjoy the extra room a pares provides. It makes it feel more like a bed because you have plenty of room for sleeping diagonal (aka, flat). Pares is where its at, especially if your tall.
— Will M
Having an awesome time camping with my pares hammock! Its so comfortable and easy to hang up and take down and pack. I have friends on this trip with other hammocks that do not even compare! 3 of my friend have gotten in mine and tried to trade with me... NOPE! This Pares is mine. They just need to upgrade theirs! haha I love it! Thanks : )
— Michelle Gorka
So, I found the (Nubé) kickstarter and was freaking out over it. I was a cub scout and boy scout and love to backpack and camp. Seeing this Pares hammock and the Nube got me very exited. I backed up the project, but I wanted a Pares asap. So I got one from the site. So far, I’m loving it. The weather just started getting cool over here in the south and I’ve been setting it up daily at home. I go to school at UNO and usually leave right after my morning classes, but this week I knew that I was going to be hanging at school for another 6 hours to go to an event later. I made sure that I brought my Pares. I tried to find a nice, quiet place to set it up, but the perfect area I found had trees that were way too far apart. After a few minutes, I realized that there was a tree very near this massive steal fence. I put one sling around some vertical beams and the other on the tree. I slept for 3 hours, no one bugged me. This was right after my final mid term exam. So it was perfect. I’ll be using it all the time over there now. This is absolutely perfect for college people.
— Brad M.
I will keep this short because I can ride on all the reviews that are already posted. I agree with all the 5 out of 5 ratings. Do yourself a favor, buy a Pares, you will not regret it. I have more hammocks than I care to admit and the Pares is my favorite, hands down.
— David Hill
This past weekend my husband and I went down 26 miles of the Buffalo River in our kayaks, stopped along the way and cooked small mouth for supper. Had a restful night in our Pares hammocks-thanks so much for making products that make our outdoor adventures more comfortable. It truly makes planning more adventures more exciting. our bucket list is now growing and the memories we are now going to be able to make is priceless. thanks for helping make that possible with your comfortable gear. Thanks again

Just ordered a Pares. Looking forward to enjoying the extra length and width. Being 6ft+ tall means big hammocks are a win
— Josh Brewster
I have been a camping enthusiast for as long as I can remember. A love for adventure and wilderness was engrained in me since childhood so I’ve spent many a night in a tent. I can say this, the first time a slept in my hammock instead of a tent was the best sleep I’d EVER had on a camping trip. I bought a chili rock Pares and I take it everywhere I go. It packs and hangs so easy that I take it out to the park to read as well as on AWESOME adventures. I’ve slept in a good bit of popular hammocks, but this one is considered “top of the line” for a reason!
— Natai
The Pares is a fantastic hammock, it is over built and the quality is superb. I’ll vouch for the comfort as well, this product is very long and fits us taller chaps really well; I like to sleep flat and have no problem doing that because of the length of this product. Fabric is comfy and the stuff sack is really cool, it compresses this huge hammock down to about a softball.
The set-up with the EZSlings is easy and very self explanatory. Great product / Fast shipping / Fantastic Cause
— Rick
So... Currently, my Sierra Madre research hammock is more waterproof than my Arcteryx rain jacket... Disconcerting... Or amazing? Definitely amazing. Gave it a few shakes and all the water came right off.
— Lydia Ruth Freeman
Recently I slept under the stars in an SMr hammock on a camping trip in the Ozarks. At home I sleep on springless mattress because I have back problems. I still wake up with back pain sometimes in my expensive bed, but was amazed at how refreshed I felt when I woke up after a night in the hammock. Now I gotta talk the wife into letting me string one up in the house! I highly recommend SMr products for all outdoors enthusiasts, young or old.

I was staying in Vicksburg for work and received a Pares hammock for my birthday from a co-worker. One shift at work I receive a text for my co-worker, (who ordered one too!!), he told me about the Nube on Kickstarter and I just knew I had to have one!! =)

So, my Pares hammock came today and I feel kind of like a pioneer woman. Within about 5 minutes I had that thing strung up between two trees and I stretched out in it and read some more of The Hunger Games. Nothing ever goes back into a sack easily!! But this hammock does. Love that the sack is attached!! Seriously loving this. I don’t know much about outdoor gear but this looks to be very well made. Best of luck in all your endeavors!

I just showed the pares video off to my girlfriends dad, who goes on motorcycle road trips all the time in the summer. He said the pares would be perfect for him when he takes a break from the road. Looks like I should have ordered 2 :p I’ll direct him to your site.

Went to the Wildlife Extravganza in Vicksburg, MS this past Saturday. My wife and I got there a little late and everyone was packing up but the folks at SMr were happy to answer our questions and I liked what I heard and saw so we bought a hammock with the extra gear to go with it. We set it up yesterday and are extremly happy with it and really enjoyed hanging out in it. LOL! You folks keep up the good work. See you around.

xPlor Hammock and Hambunk Reviews

Hambunks (Pares bottom/xPlor top)

Yep I bought this one too, the xPlor is a cool little hammock. It’s really light weight and gives you so many reasons to take it along wherever you venture. The xPlor is shorter than my Pares but it is still plenty long enough to lay nice and flat in by itself on EZSlings or set up for Hambunks with my Pares.
 Awesome rig too.
— Rick
For Fathers’ day I got a Hambunk. Tried it out in the backyard with the youngest Granddaughter. I give it a Five Thumbs up!. Also the Pares is outstanding! It’s more comfortable than any of my three other hammocks; all leading brands. After two afternoon napes, the Pares is fast becoming my go to hammock. Love the set up. I’ve used stock, whoopies, and cinch buckles. Your system beats them all. Might need a 2” strap version for National Forests - new requirement. And the xPlor will go into my pack for napping on Geocaching days. I see a Nube in my future. Followed by the winter option. SMr is doing outstanding work and is a socially responsible company.

"Hambunk Awesomeness! We were able to give the Hambunks their maiden voyage, and I guess the dog was included! It's been great to follow  you guys through this project and I'm proud to have been a backer. I'm also stoked that you guys are in it for the glory of God and serving the people of Cenrtral Ameria. Simply inspiring."

purchased an xPlor a while back, and I used it on a rock-climbing trip a few weeks ago. It was great! Really comfortable and durable. It stormed during the night, so had to find somewhere else to sleep, but the hammock held up extremely well in the storm. It even filled up with a lot of water because of its water resistant qualities, but after I dumped it out it was still good as new. Great product!

"We are loving Hambunks on our roadtrip. Easy to set up, fun, and comfortable. I can't believe how strong and well made these are."

Let me add that the xPlor is also awesome on its own. Tried it solo yesterday (apart from the Hambunks). I’m 5’10” and 210 lbs. It fit well even though recommended for people 5’7”.
— Marty Hill
I used the xPlor and Pares Hambunk system recently on a camping trip and it was perfect for my husband and I. We both love hammock camping, and are recently married, so its nice to sleep close to him (especially since heat rises so I get his rising body temp to keep me warm in the top hammock ; ) He is 6’2” so the Pares is perfect for his height. He hangs in his Pares underneath me in my xPlor. It’s perfect. I couldn’t believe at first that the 1 set of EZSlings could hold both of our weights, but it did! I think the max weight is 1,000lbs ! Which, of course, is amazing. Thanks Guys!

SMr Shout Outs

SMr Illuminate Manufacturing Company

Hey buddies,
Long time customer here. My lady and I own the Nubé hammock tent, the winter barrier, the xplor hammock, and the pares. We both love everything about SMr. The gear feels like it was custom made just for us, it’s that good. keep up the killer work, I’ve been waiting for forever for such a killer company like SMr to hit the market. Thanks guys.
— Kevin Cahoon
Hey guys,

I just wanted to take a moment and say well done and congratulations on creating an awesome product! I have a strong love for anything outdoors and good product design, as I am a product designer and engineer myself. I have not yet been able to test your hammock system/rainfly out yet due to life’s curve balls, a busted transmission on my truck to be exact haha, but I hope to be purchasing one from you soon. Congrats on finally being awarded your patents. That’s an up hill battle to be sure. It’s a real pleasure to see others out there being as innovative as you all and to be putting a portion of profits to a good cause. Again, well done and keep up the great work!

I look forward to enjoying your products. Also being in public service I’m all about giving back to my community, so I think what you are doing by giving back on a much larger scale truly amazing. Your company’s story is heartwarming and refreshing to see. Thanks for all you do to make the world a better place.
